Materials Needed:

Yarn

·         Bernat Super Value, Chocolate, approx. 90 yds

·         Bernat Super Value, Topaz, approx. 25 yds

·         Black worsted weight, small amount

Extras

·         2 safety eyes, 10mm

·         Stuffing

·         3.5mm hook

·         Scissors

·         Tapestry Needle


Stitches Key:

sc – single crochet

inc – increase/2 single crochet in same stitch

dec – decrease/single crochet 2 together

hdc – half double crochet

ch/s – chain/s

st/s – stitch/es

sl st – slip stitch


Size:

Finished Mika is approx. 9.5” tall


Gauge:

9 sc and 9 rows = 2 inches


Pieces you will need:

·         2 ears (2 panels each)

·         2 arms (2 panels each)

·         2 legs (2 panels each)

·         1 tail (2 panels)

·         body (front and back)

·         head (front and back)


Color Code:

B – brown (chocolate)

T – tan (topaz)


Notes:

·         ch 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as st

·         ch 1 and turn at the end of every row unless otherwise marked

·         when stitching together the pieces make sure to stick your hook through BOTH pieces to make sure they’re sewn together, you will stitch in every row and stitch around the panel, applying any special notes indicated in that portion of the pattern

·         please read through the entire “stitching together” portions of the pattern, as you get to them, before doing the stitching so you have a picture of the entire process before beginning

·         when working frequent color changes you will continue to work in sc (unless otherwise marked) and will stitch in the color indicated by the color code and the number of stitches indicated by the number.

 

EXAMPLE

Color code:

P – pink

O – orange

W – white

G – green

“Pinc, 3, O5, W8, Gdec, 2”

would be

“inc, sc 3 in pink, sc 5 in orange, sc 8 in white, dec, sc 2 in green”

Ears (make 2):

Using tan

Row 1: ch 5, sc 4 (4)

Row 2: inc, sc 2, inc (6)

Row 3: sc 6 (6)

Row 4: dec, sc 2, dec (4)

Row 5: dec, dec (2)

Fasten off, weave in ends

 

Repeat using brown

 

Stitching together:

Place ear panels, wrong sides together, lining up the stitches. Attach brown yarn to first sc of row 1, stitching towards row 5 with tan panel facing you.

 

ch 1, sc around

Stop at the other end of row 1, leaving bottom unstitched

Fasten off, weave in ends, leave a long tail for sewing, set aside


Arms (make 2):

Using tan

Row 1: ch 3, sc 2 (2)

Row 2: sc 2 (2)

 

Change to brown

Row 3-14: sc 2 (2)

Fasten off, weave in ends

 

Repeat rows 1-14, do not fasten off

 

Stitching together:

Place arm panels, wrong sides together, lining up the stitches, working towards row 1

 

Special notes:

·         (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner of row 14

·         change color as needed

·         sc 3 in each st of row 1

Using tan

Row 1: ch 4, sc 3 (3)

Change to brown

Row 3-14: sc 3 (3)

Fasten off, weave in ends

 

Repeat rows 1-14, do not fasten off

 

Stitching together:

Place leg panels, wrong sides together, lining up the stitches, working towards row 1

 

Special notes:

Finishing:

Sew the tail to the center of the back body panel across rows 2-5 (or you can sew it on at the end, I find it easier to hide the ends if stitching it on now) [img 6]

Stitching together (body):

Cut 4 strands of brown at approx. 12” in length, set aside


Place your body panels, wrong sides together, lining up the stitches, attach brown yarn to row 8 and stitch towards row 11 with top body panel facing you

 

ch 1, sc until row 10

 

Step 1: stop, pull up your loop and set aside for the moment

 

Step 2: using 1 piece of brown yarn cut earlier, sew in one arm between the body panels, sew it in at an angle across rows 11-16, and stitch through all 3 panels (top, bottom, arm) hide your ends between the body panels

 

Step 3: pick up your loop from step 1, sc across the top body panel only, at the end of the arm continue to stitch through both body panels (top and bottom)

 

Stitch until row 15, repeat step 1

 

Repeat step 2 with second arm

 

Repeat step 3 across second arm

 

Stitch until row 4, repeat step 1

 

Step 5: using 1 piece of brown yarn cut earlier, sew in one leg between the body panels, stitch through all 3 panels (top, bottom, leg), hide your ends between the body panels

 

Repeat step 3 across first leg

 

Stitch 3 sts between legs, repeat step 1

 

Repeat step 5 with second leg

 

Repeat step 3 across second leg

 

Stuff

 

Sc to first sc

sl st to first sc

Fasten off, weave in ends

 

Stitching together (head):

Attach safety eyes between rows 9 & 10 of the front head panel with 4 sts between them

Sew on nose and mouth using black yarn. [img 5]

Cut 1 piece of brown yarn at approx. 24” in length

 

Sew your front head panel onto the front of your body lining up row 1 of your head panel to row 16 of your body panel, stitching through the head panel and the top body panel only

 

Continue around to sew your back head panel onto the back of your body lining up row 1 of your head panel to row 16 of your body panel, stitching through the head panel and the back body panel only [img 7]

Attach brown to row 6 on the left side of your monkey, stitching towards the chin with the front facing you.

 

Stitch around stitching through both head panels, once you reach the body, stitch across the top head panel only, stitching around the chin

 

At the end of the body, continue to stitch through both head panels

 

Stuff before closing

 

Sl st to first sc

Fasten off, weave in ends.

 

Sew your ears onto the sc join of your head, lining up the bottom of the ears to row 6 of the head.

 

Weave in any remaining ends.
