Materials Needed:

Yarn

·         Medium green, Bernat Super Value, Kelly, 115 yds

·         Light green, Red Heart Super Saver, Spring Green, 65 yds

·         Yellow, Loops & Threads Impeccable, Butterscotch, 25 yds

·         Dark green, Bernat Premium, Evergreen, 25 yds

·         Acrylic worsted weight, white, 15 yds

·         Acrylic worsted weight, black, small amount

Extras

·         Stuffing

·         3.50mm hook

·         Scissors

·         Tapestry Needle


Stitches Key:

sc – single crochet

inc – increase/2 single crochet in same stitch

dec – decrease/single crochet 2 together

picot – ch 3, sl st to first ch made

ch/s – chain/s

st/s – stitch/es

sl st – slip stitch


Gauge:

9 sc and 8.5 rows = 2 inches


Size:

Finished Alligator is approx. 16.5” long and 4” wide


Notes:

·         ch 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as st

·         ch 1 and turn at the end of every row unless otherwise marked, including when working the eyes

·         when stitching together the pieces make sure to stick your hook through BOTH pieces to make sure they’re sewn together, you will stitch in every row and stitch around the panel, applying any special notes indicated in that portion of the pattern

·         always attach yarn with a slip st by stitching into the wrong side of said row



Leg A (make 2):

Using medium green

Row 1: ch 5, inc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3 (5)

Row 2: sc 4, inc (6)

Row 3: inc, sc 5 (7)

Row 4: sc 7 (7)

Row 5-8: sc 5 (5)

Row 9: dec, sc 1, dec

Fasten off, weave in ends [img 3]

 

Repeat rows 1-9

Stitching together:

Attach dark green to row 8 on long side of leg, working towards row 9 [img 4]

ch 1, *sc, picot, repeat from * 4 more times, sc

 

change to medium green

 

Special notes:

  • (sc, ch 1, sc) in the corner of row 1 & row 4 (NOT the dec side)

  • stuff before closing

Fasten off, weave in ends, set aside



Leg B (make 2):

Using medium green

Row 1: ch 5, inc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3 (5)

Row 2: sc 4, inc (6)

Row 3: inc, sc 5 (7)

Row 5-8: sc 5 (5)

Row 9: dec, sc 1, dec

Stitching together:

Attach dark green to row 7 on short side of leg, working towards row 9 [img 4]

 

ch 1, *sc, picot, repeat from * 4 more times, sc

 

change to medium green

Eyes (make 2):

Using yellow

Row 1: ch 3, sc 1 in 2nd ch from hook, 4sc in next ch, sc 1 on other side of ch (6)

Row 2: sc 2, inc, inc, sc 2 (8)

Row 3: sc 3, inc, inc, sc 3 (10)

Fasten off, weave in ends

 

Using black, stitch your pupil onto the eye

 

Using medium green

Row 1: ch 3, sc 1 in 2nd ch from hook, 4sc in next ch, sc 1 on other side of ch (6)

Row 2: sc 2, inc, inc, sc 2 (8)

Row 3: sc 3, inc, inc, sc 3 (10)

Row 4-5: sc 10 (10)

Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing [img 5]

Stitching together:

Sew row 3 of yellow piece to row 5 of medium green piece, leaving a long tail and the bottom open for sewing later, set aside. [img 6]

Mouth:

Using yellow

Row 1: ch 11, sc 10 (10)

Row 2: inc, sc 8, inc (12)

Row 3: inc, sc 10, inc (14)

Row 4-16: sc 14 (14)

Fasten off, weave in ends [img 7]

Repeat rows 1-16, do not fasten off

 

Stitching together:

sc across row 16 of both panels, joining them

Fasten off, weave in ends

 

*This sc join will be the wrong side of your mouth piece*

Using light green

Using black, stitch nostrils onto right side of medium green panel’s nose

Spikes:

Working on right side of medium green body panel

 

1.      Attach dark green to the middle of row 25, working towards the tail [img 9]

ch 1, *sc, picot, skip next st, repeat from * 23 more times, sc, fasten off

 

2.      Attach dark green to row 27 between first spikes made and edge of panel

 

ch 1, *sc, picot, skip next st, repeat from * 15 more times, sc, fasten off

 

Repeat step 2 on other side of first spikes made

 

Weave in ends. [img 10]

Stitching together:

1.      Joining light green body panel to bottom panel of mouth piece:

 

Note: mouth piece is a tad smaller than body panel, this is on purpose for it to bubble, stitch and row count are the same on the outer edge

 

Attach light green to the right side of row 16 of body panel, stitch towards nose with body panel facing you [img 11]

Sc around, stitching through both panels (body panel and bottom mouth panel), stopping at row 16 and the end of the mouth piece. [img 12]

Fasten off, weave in ends.

2. Making bottom teeth

 

Attach white to the first stitch of the wrong side of sc join just made, working just below the “post” of these sts, working towards the nose [img 13]

ch 1, *sc, picot, skip next st, repeat from * 20 more times, sc, fasten off, weave in ends [img 14 & 15]

3.      Joining medium green top body panel to top panel of mouth piece:

 

Note: mouth piece is a tad smaller than body panel, this is on purpose for it to bubble, stitch and row count are the same on the outer edge

 

Attach medium green to the right side of row 16 of body panel, stitch towards nose with body panel facing you [img 16]

sc around, stitching through both panels (body panel and top mouth panel) [img 17]

At the end of the mouth panel continue to sc around joining the top and bottom body panels, making sure to reinforce the corner of the mouth so there’s no hole

 

Stitch a few sts, stop and pull up your loop, set aside for now, we’ll come back to this after adding the top teeth.

4. Making top teeth

 

Attach white to the first stitch of the wrong side of (medium green) sc join just made, working just below the “post” of these sts, working towards the nose [img 18]

ch 1, *sc picot, skip next st, repeat from * 20 more times, sc, fasten off, weave in ends [img 19]

5.      Joining top and bottom body panels

 

Pick up medium green loop again  

 

Special notes:

·         sc 4 into tip of the tail

·         stuff as you go

 

sc around, reinforce corner of mouth before sl st to first sc

Fasten off, weave in ends



Finishing:

Sew 1 leg A and 1 leg B to each side of your alligator with the toes pointing opposite directions. Attach the front leg’s row 1 to row 33 of the body and the back leg’s row 1 to row 43 of the body.

 

Sew eyes on top of alligator head starting at row 16, stuff before finishing

 

Weave in any remaining ends.
