Urania the Unicorn

Urania the Unicorn - Free Crochet Pattern

I wanted to start my blog with something that is fun and that's inspired by my chaos. My 3 year old daughter loves unicorns, she even picked out a unicorn backpack for when she starts preschool this year. She also has these "My Little Pony" toys and some are unicorns and some are horses, and when she first got them she had sorted them out and handed me the horses and told me "mom, these are not unicorns" in a very disapproving manner. So what better than to make a unicorn stuffie.

Finishing:

1. Attach your 4 legs to the bottom of your unicorn, attaching 2 to each side but keeping them near the sc outline

2. Attach your horn to your unicorn stitching it to your Sc outline and put it near the eyes and center of the head

3. Attach your ears to the rounded part of the unicorns head, attaching one on each side of the Sc outline

Mane & Tail:

To attach the yarn, insert hook into one of your Sc stitches, fold mane/tail strands in half and hook them onto your hook. Pull them all through the stitch and pull the loose ends through the loop you just made. Pull tight to secure.

I used 5 colors so I cut 1 strand from each color and attached the 5 strands into 1 Sc from the outline. I did this 4 times for the tail and then cut the tail strands into a point to give it dimension at a length of 7" at the longest point.

For the mane I once again attached 5 strands per Sc. I attached a group in EVERY OTHER Sc from the outline, I did this 3 times from the horn to between the ears for the top tuft at a length of and then another 10 times down the length of the neck. I cut the top tuft to even lengths of 4" and then the mane I brushed out from the body and trimmed them all even so they would layer when they hung naturally at 5.5".
