Gentry the Goat - Free Crochet Pattern

Gentry the Goat

Hyero, Corina, and Gentry are the same pattern with slight modifications to make them each their own unique animal. But you can buy all 3 patterns for one price.

Materials Needed:

Yarn

·         Acrylic worsted weight, grey, approx. 160 yds

·         Acrylic worsted weight, black, approx. 16 yds

·         Acrylic worsted weight, white, approx. 21 yds

·         Acrylic worsted weight, pink, approx. 10.5 yds

·         Acrylic worsted weight, tan, approx. 11 yds

 

Extras

·         2 safety eyes, 10mm

·         Stuffing

·         3.75mm hook

·         Scissors

·         Tapestry Needle


Stitches Key:

sc – single crochet

inc – increase/2 single crochet in same stitch

dec – decrease/single crochet 2 together

ch/s – chain/s

st/s – stitch/es

sl st – slip stitch


Gauge:

8.5 sc and 9 rows = 2 inches


Size:

Finished Gentry is approx. 13” tall


Color Code:

color A – grey

color B – grey

color C – pink

color D – black

color E – white 

color F – tan


Notes:

·         ch 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as st

·         ch 1 and turn at the end of every row unless otherwise marked

·         when stitching together the pieces make sure to stick your hook through BOTH pieces to make sure they’re sewn together, you will stitch in every row and stitch around the panel, applying any special notes indicated in that portion of the pattern

·         be sure to carry your yarn and pull your tails to the same side while stitching your panel, making that the “wrong side” and make sure your 2 body panels have opposite wrong sides so that you will have 2 right sides to use as the exterior of your animal.

·         when working frequent color changes you will continue to work in sc (unless otherwise marked) and will stitch in the color indicated by the color code and the number of stitches indicated by the number.

EXAMPLE

Color code:

A – color A

B – color B

C – color C

D – color D

“Ainc, 3, B5, C8, Ddec, 2”

would be

“inc, sc 3 in color A, sc 5 in color B, sc 8 in color C, dec, sc 2 in color D”

Horns (make 2):

Using color F

Row 1: ch 2, inc in 2nd ch from hook (2)

Row 2: sc 2 (2)

Row 3: inc, inc (4)

Row 4: sc 4 (4)

Fasten off, weave in ends

 

Repeat row 1 to 4, do not fasten off

 

Stitching together:

Place horn panels wrong sides together, lining up the stitches

 

Special notes:

·         stitch 3 sc into the point of row 1

·         (sc, ch 1, sc) into each corner of row 4

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing



Tail:

Using color A

Row 1: ch 2, inc in 2nd ch from hook (2)

Row 2: sc 2 (2)

Row 3: inc, inc (4)

Repeat rows 1 to 4, do not fasten off

 

Stitching together:

Place tail panels wrong sides together, lining up the stitches

 

Special notes:

·         stitch 3 sc into the point of row 1

Place ear panels wrong sides together lining up your stitches

Using color D

Row 1: ch 7, sc 6 (6)

Row 2-4: sc 6 (6)

Switch to color A

Row 6-18: sc 6 (6)

Fasten off, weave in ends

 

Repeat row 1 to 18, do not fasten off

 

Stitching together

Place leg panels, wrong sides together, lining up your stitches

 

Special notes:

·         (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner

·         make sure to change colors for the hoof when needed

 

·         stuff before stitching the top shut

Body color chart


Stitching together:

Attach your safety eyes between row 36 & 37 about 6 sts in from the back of the head

Sew on other facial features (mouth, nostril/nose, eye brow)

 

Place body panels wrong sides together, lining up stitches, stitch with right side facing you

 

Special notes

·         attach color A to row 29, working towards color A

·         change color as needed to match the colors of the body panel

·         stuff as you go

Fasten off, weave in ends


Finishing:

Sew on your ears at the back of the head, staggering them a bit

 

Sew on your legs, 2 on each body panel on the bottom of the body

 

For the goatee and hair, cut short strands of color A and loop them around the sc outline under the chin and on the top of the head. Loop a few strands into 3 stitches in both locations.

 

Sew horns to top of the head, between the ears, one on each side.

 

Sew the tail onto the bum of the goat over the sc outline.
