Materials Needed:

Yarn

o   Bernat Premium, Hot Pink, approx. 180 yds

o   Acrylic worsted weight, white, approx. 22 yds

o   Small amount of black yarn for the mouth

Extras

o   2 safety eyes, 10mm

o   Stuffing

o   3.75mm hook

o   Scissors


Stitches Key:

Sc – single crochet

Inc – increase/2 single crochet in same stitch

Dec – decrease/single crochet 2 together

BLO – back loop only

cluster – worked as dc3tog (double crochet 3 together)

Ch/s – chain/s

st/s – stitch/es

Sl st – slip stitch


Notes:

  • Ch 1 at the beginning of each row does not count as st

  • ch 1 and turn at the end of every row unless otherwise marked

  • when stitching together the pieces make sure to stick your hook through BOTH pieces to make sure they’re sewn together and you will stitch in every row and stitch around the panels, applying any special notes indicated in that portion of the pattern

  • when making the legs:

o   ch 1 at the beginning of each rnd, does not count as st

o   do not turn

o   sl st to first sc at the end of each row

  • when working frequent color changes you will continue to work in sc (unless otherwise marked) and will stitch in the color indicated by the color code and the number of stitches indicated by the number. 

EXAMPLE

Color code:

P – pink

O – orange

W – white

G – green

 

“Pinc, 3, O5, W8, Gdec, 2”

 

would be

 

“inc, sc 3 in pink, sc 5 in orange, sc 8 in white, dec, sc 2 in green”

Gauge:

8.5 sc and 9 rows = 2 inches

Finished dinosaur is approx. 8” tall and 18” long

Leg (make 4):

Using pink

Rnd 1: magic ring, ch 1, sc 6 (6)

Rnd 2: *inc, repeat from * 5 more times (12)

Rnd 3: *sc 1, inc, repeat from * 5 more times (18)

 

*work pink stitches in blo and white stitches in both loops*

 

Rnd 4: P5 W2 P1 W2 P1 W2 P5 (18)

 

*work both loops as normal*

 

Rnd 5: P5 W2 P1 W2 P1 W2 P5 (18)

Using Pink

Rnd 7: *sc 4, dec, repeat from * 2 more times (15)

Rnd 8-9: sc 15 (15)

Rnd 10: *sc 3, dec, repeat from *2 more times (12)

Rnd 11-12: sc 12 (12)

 

Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing, set aside [img 1]

Nose horn:

Using white

Row 1: ch 2, sc 1 (1)

Row 2: inc (2)

Row 3: inc, inc (4)

Row 4-5: sc 4 (4)

Fasten off, weave in ends [img 2]

Stitching together:

Place horn panels, wrong sides together

 

Special notes:

·         (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner of row 5

·         stitch 3 sc into tip of row 1

Using white

Fasten off

 Repeat rows 1-22, do not fasten off

 

Attach safety eyes between rows 17 & 18, 5 sts from the front of the head

 

Using black, sew on the mouth of your dinosaur [img 15]

Stitching together:

Place your 2 body pieces, wrong sides together, making sure your faces are pointing outwards.

 

Special notes:

 

o   sc 4 around the tip of the tail

o   stuff as you go (especially the tail)

sc around other 2 sides and bottom of frill [img 16]

Finishing:

Sew your legs onto the bottom of your dinosaur, stitching 2 on each side about 3 rows up from the sc join.

 

Sew your nose horn onto the snout of your dinosaur.

 

Sew the head horns, one on either side of your dinosaurs fore head, stitch them on at a bit of an angle.

 

Sew the frill onto the dinosaurs neck, wrapping it from one side to the other.

 

Hide any remaining ends.
